Remembering the “Snowpocalypse of 2011”
uga:
Despite the fog this morning, it’s a fine and springy day here in Athens! Perfect for the second day of spring semester classes.
A year ago today, Athens, Georgia, and most of the Southeastern United States was in the grips of a strong winter storm that brought up to a half a foot or more of snow to most of the region. Schools and businesses were closed for nearly a week, as freezing temperatures in the wake of the storm lingered for multiple days and ice turned most roads into skating rinks. A year later, mild, Spring like temperatures and rain are common throughout the region.
Favorites of ‘11: University Memory
We complete our series of 2011 editors’ picks with something particular to each desk: a favorite experience at the University, in Athens or with UGA friends. Some took place on the job, while others revolved around time with friends — another derived from an extremely unlikely source. All the while, these moments reinforced our love for the University and what we do at it.
